Spring Semester begins on Monday, January 13, 2025
NEW Students only (those who have never attended or those who attended before 2017)::
ESL Orientation and Placement for Spring 2025
- In-Person Registration is a TWO-day process. YOU MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS.
- Be on time! The lottery is between 8:45 – 9:00 AM and 5:45 – 6:00 PM
- NEW Student Selection Process: DAY ONE 50 Students will be selected by lottery to register. There is no need to arrive more than 15 minutes early. Everyone who arrives on time will be given a lottery ticket. ONLY 50 tickets will be randomly selected.
- Attention: NO children are allowed during the registration process
- To register for a class you will need a Gmail account.
Once Day ONE registration and Day TWO assessment are completed, you will receive your Spring 2025 class information. Following are the new student registration date options:
RETURNING STUDENTS ONLY: If you attended an ESL class between 2017 and Spring 2025 and want to return, please email your name, date of birth, and your preference for a morning or evening class to [email protected] by November 22nd and we will contact you with information about registration.

Orientación y Colocación de ESL para Primavera 2025
- El registro presencial es un proceso de DOS días. DEBES ASISTIR AMBOS DÍAS.
- ¡Llega a tiempo! El sorteo se realiza entre las 8:45 – 9:00 a.m. y entre las 5:45 – 6:00 p.m.
- Proceso de selección de estudiantes NUEVOS: PRIMER DÍA se seleccionarán 50 estudiantes por sorteo para inscribirse. Llegar 15 minutos antes. A todos los que lleguen a tiempo se les dará un boleto de lotería. SOLO se seleccionarán 50 boletos al azar.
- Atención: NO se permiten niños durante el proceso de registro.
- Para registrarse en una clase, necesitará una cuenta de Gmail.
Una vez que se complete el registro del PRIMER DÍA y la evaluación del SEGUNDO DÍA, recibirá la información de su clase de Primavera 2025. Las siguientes son las nuevas fechas de registro para estudiantes:

Courses Offered
These classes focus on developing students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. Vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation work are also incorporated. We offer seven levels of all-skills classes, both morning and evening. There is an assessment of reading, writing and listening/speaking ability to determine placement.

Open Enrollment
These classes are offered four or five afternoons per week and placement is based on an assessment of speaking and listening comprehension. The focus is on the development of listening comprehension and verbal ability.
It is an ESL open lab to support technology skills at all levels: basic, intermediate and advanced.
Reading Plus is a self-paced online reading program to enhance reading skills. It helps students to increase their fluency and reading comprehension. Enrollment in Reading Plus requires a weekly two hour commitment
Citizenship classes focus on basic English, U.S. history, and government. Students will practice for the oral interview and writing for the citizenship test. Open entry – enroll anytime. Classes are FREE.
WRITING BASICS Online
This class is for students who want to improve their basic skills in writing. We start at the sentence level and move to paragraphs, reviewing verb tense, word order, word form, word choice, connecting words, prepositions and articles. We also focus on effective punctuation. The class is intended for ESL students at High Beginning or above, as well as students in the GED and High School Diploma programs.

WRITING intermediate Online
This is a continuation of the writing basics class for students who want to improve their writing skills. We take a closer look at sentence structure and paragraphs, reviewing verb tense, word order, word form, word choice, connecting words, prepositions and articles. We also focus on effective punctuation. The class is suitable for ESL students at High Intermediate and above, as well as students in the GED and High School Diploma programs.

WRITING Advanced Online
This class is intended for Low and High Advanced ESL, High School Diploma, and GED students who are preparing to attend community college. The curriculum focuses on academic writing for students who have mastered writing basic sentences and are ready to move onto paragraphs and essays. In this class, you will review basic paragraph structure, acquire academic vocabulary, brainstorm ideas, learn to organize your thoughts and write and revise your work. Commitment to attend all classes is highly recommended.

How to Enroll
These classes are open to ESL students at the High Intermediate level or above. The class is a 3-unit, fee-based class, taught by CSM faculty, Todd Windisch. There are 3-6 hours of homework per week and attendance is mandatory.
