Students will learn to:
- Recognize the organization of the human body and learn directional terms
- Define prefixes, root words, and suffixes used in medical terminology
- Develop a basic vocabulary of medical terms used for diseases, patient conditions, diagnostic procedures, tests, equipment, and prescriptions
- Recognize medical abbreviations and acronyms
- Accurately pronounce and use medical terms in the appropriate context
- Develop skills for appropriate healthcare communication
- Become familiar with drug dosage forms and routes of drug administration
- Order a prescription refill on behalf of the patient, read a medication label, and know how to locate pharmacies in the area
- Understand medical charts and health information documentation
- Identify the basic rules of patient privacy
