PAINTING & DRAWING

San Mateo Senior Center

This class is for experienced watercolorists and adults with some experience, past or present, painting in watercolor. Illustrator Matt Crane will demonstrate a sampling of painting and drawing techniques weekly.

ZUMBA “GOLD”

Join us every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning for Zumba Gold, a cardio-based, low impact, Latin-inspired dance-fitness class. Classes conclude with strength training using either hand weights or resistance bands. Bring a mat for Central Park class location. Guest passes accepted.

EAST/WEST EXERCISE: STRETCH STRENGTH BALANCE

Class starts with Qi Gong movements synchronized with slow intentional breathing, followed by light aerobic exercise designed to promote better cardio vascular function, balance and endurance. Active movement is followed by stretching and building muscle strength using hand weights and bands. Bring hand weights. Resistance bands provided. Guest passes accepted.

TAI CHI 101: BEGINNING TAI CHI ZUNGU CHEN FAMILY TAIJI

You will learn six basic Tai Chi postures, step by step. Class starts with gentle warm up and balance exercises Tai Chi will improve coordination, support better balance response, benefit joint mobility and increase overall agility. This class is a continuation of Tai Chi 101. Class size is limited to 12 students. A small class size allows for students to receive more individual instruction. 103 students advance to new postures. PILATES: BALL WORKOUT INTERMEDIATE

Prerequisite: Pilates Level 2 or similar experience. Tone and strengthen your core – the abdominal, gluteus, hip, and postural muscles. Increase your upper body strength and improve your flexibility and balance. Please bring your own exercise ball, mat, and weights. Guest passes not accepted.

YOGA FOR MIDLIFE

The practice of yoga will gradually and surely enhance your strength, range of motion and wellbeing. BETTER BALANCE – 8 WEEKS: LEVEL 1

Rebuild your strength and fine-tune your flexibility in this seated exercise class designed for older adults who are starting to experience some mobility difficulties. You will practice a variety of movements designed to improve your posture, increase muscle strength, lower your risk for falls, and prepare you for functional Level 2 balance exercises. Class size is limited to 10. Guest passes not accepted for any of the Better Balance classes.

BETTER BALANCE: LEVEL 2

Build leg strength, enhance your flexibility, and improve your posture. This class combines seated, standing and gait exercises designed to challenge and increase your functional balance skills. Class size is limited to 20. Guest passes not accepted for any of the Better Balance classes. Pre-requisite: For safety reasons, you must complete Better Balance: Level 1 and/or have instructor approval prior to registering for Level 2.

BETTER BONES EXERCISES FOR OSTEOPOROSIS– 16 WEEKS

In this gentle-Pilates based fitness program you will practice safe and effective standing, seated and floor exercises designed to improve posture and balance, and increase strength and flexibility. Must be able to safely and independently get down to and up from the floor. Bring a mat and pillow. Class limited to 15 students. No guest passes accepted.

Family History (Genealogy) is a journey into the Lives of our Ancestors – their joys, triumphs, their problems and how they finally came to the Bay Area. This class is part lecture part ‘hands-on’ research. Students will be guided individually as they conduct some of their own work on the class-room computers. All students should bring a thumb-drive.  One-on-One, 90 minute Consults with the Instructor are encouraged to jump start your research. Guest Passes are a great way to sample many of our class offerings. Purchase a few guest passes for yourself, or to have a few on hand to invite a friend or visiting relative to class.

Guest passes can be used for the following Active Adult Program classes only: Fitness Education, Health Topics, Knitting, and Music Appreciation. Passes are not applicable to classes that feature ongoing projects and involve use of supplies such as Painting and Drawing.

Guest Pass for 1 hour classes: $8.00
Guest Pass for 2 hour classes: $15.00
