A High School Diploma (or Equivalency) is required to register for this program and to get your Pharmacy Technician license in California. Proof of COVID vaccination is also required for externship. Students who successfully complete the program qualify for a clinical externship at a local pharmacy!

Program Overview

This 260-hour program covers topics such as pharmacology for technicians, pharmacy law and regulations, sterile and non-sterile compounding, quality assurance, and medication safety. Students will be mailed supplies and complete skills labs virtually.  Must be 18+ years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. A clean background check is necessary for licensure in CA.

Students will need to have access to internet, PC, laptop, or tablet and access to a printer in order to participate. Program includes a 120-hour externship where you will receive hands-on training in a pharmacy under the direction of a pharmacist. Upon successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician program, you will be eligible to apply for your California Pharmacy Technician License.*

*This program fulfills the education requirements of the California Board of Pharmacy (Business and Professions Code Section 4202) for pharmacy technician licensure.
This training qualifies students to sit for either the PTCE (offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) or the ExCPT (offered through the National Healthcareer Association).
 **Textbook, lab coat/scrubs, license application fee is not included in tuition. Payment plan available.
  • 140 classroom hours and 120 clinical hours
  • Pharmacy medical terminology and calculations
  • Reading and interpreting prescriptions
  • Defining generic and brand name drugs
  • Skill/Lab materials

 

Complete requirements for the externship will be provided during the mandatory information session on the first day of class.

Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of environments with many different job duties. With so many advancement opportunities available, there are many possibilities that are definitely worth working towards. Work places include:
